Yet another fan favorite has been confirmed to once again grace the pages of a Sonic the Hedgehog comic with their talents. The quickly growing IDW Sonic Comic Squad on Facebook has delivered on their promise and made their first big reveal concerning the new book coming in April: Tracy Yardley will be illustrating a cover for the first issue!
What’s up Sonic Comics Squad?! We’re here to show off one of the OFFICIAL covers for issue #1 of IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, featuring the return of beloved Sonic artist Tracy Yardley!
Tracy Yardley! began his career in 2005 with fellow SCAD alum, Nate Bowden on Tokyopop’s original manga series,“Riding Shotgun.” At the same time, he began his long run (pun intended) on the various “Sonic the Hedgehog” titles published by Archie Comics alongside Ian Flynn, and is currently producing art for Archie’s new “Cosmo” series. He has contributed to “Hero Cats of Stellar City” from Action Lab Entertainment, and has produced scripts and pencils for the forthcoming “Galaxy Man and Cosmic Girl.”
Now Tracy is back on board once again with Ian Flynn at IDW Publishing; ready for new and exciting adventures with the blue blur, Sonic the Hedgehog!
It is yet unclear as to whether or not Tracy will be doing interior illustrations as this point or just covers, but he did give a hilariously cryptic reply to members of the Facebook group. Nevertheless, his return is exciting news to fans concerned with what direction the new book might take. With this announcement, IDW Publishing has confirmed two Archie Sonic alums: writer Ian Flynn and artist Tracy Yardley, perhaps the biggest names in the later years of the book.
Moreover, IDW has indirectly confirmed that there will be alternate covers for the first issue, and presumably future issues as well. Will Yardley’s art be the main cover or an alternate? This has yet to be revealed! Personally, I would love to see the tradition of Patrick “Spaz” Spaziante doing the cover for each mile stone issue continue! Are you excited to see that the boys are back in town? What do you think of the new cover? Let us know in the comments below! Be sure to check back for the latest Sonic news here at Sonic Source!
